Iridescence for wind quintet (2017)
Instrumentation:
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon
Duration: ca. 7’
About the piece:
Iridescence explores the colour and combination of timbres of wind instruments, as well as the transformation of musical material. At the beginning of the piece, attacks, or short sounds, are heard together with long, sustained sounds... the attacks disappear, leaving sustained sounds, and these sounds then break into lines. At the climax the sustained sounds return, and gradually, they disappear, leaving only the attacks. This piece seeks to emulate iridescence, the phenomenon of surfaces that appear to gradually change colour as our perspective shifts. As the piece progresses, it changes in both colour and texture, but eventually returns to the original musical material.
